PETER ARVANITIS

HEAD COACH/DIRECTOR OF HOCKEY OPERATIONS

Peter is the winningest coach in OU Hockey history. Amassing a record of 159-76 and 27 shoot out losses, Peter led the Sooners to the ACHA National Tourney 6 of his 7 years as head coach. Peter played his Junior Hockey in Canada and played his professional CHL career in Nashville and OKC. In 442 professional games, he amassed 117 goals, 243 points, and 1239 penalty minutes. He was also part of the 2000-01 OKC Blazers Championship Team. Peter now resides in Norman with his wife Trish, sons Alex, Dimitri, Nikko and daughter Sophia.

Assistant Coach

Tyler, originally from Honey Brook, PA, made his way to Oklahoma in 2017 after playing 4 years of junior hockey across North America including a stint with the Wilkes Barre-Scranton Knights. He joined OU Hockey as a player under current Head Coach Peter Arvanitis for one year. Tyler graduated from OU’s Price College of Business with a degree in Finance in May, 2020. For the last decade, Tyler has coached goalies at all levels from youth to professional and currently works extensively with the Sooner defensive players and goalies. Tyler lives in Norman and works in the home construction industry.

General Manager

Entering his second season as General Manager, Brad brings 2 decades of sports management to the Sooners. He started and continues to lead LP Sports and KidsGames USA, youth sports outreach ministries based in Rockwall, TX. An OU alumnus, Brad is excited to give back to his Alma Mater serving in this role.

Strength and Conditioning Coach

An Edmond native, Allen brings his exercise physiology and physical education background to OU Hockey after owning a gym for 27 years while also serving as Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the OKC Blazers CHL team, as well as other professional and semi-professional teams in OKC. He holds a Level 4 USA Hockey Coaching Certification and has two sons currently playing elite level hockey..

Athletic trainer

Following a 32 year career as an Athletic Trainer at OU and a member of the Oklahoma Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame, Anita became the Athletic Trainer for OU Hockey 7 years ago. Enjoying working through her retirement, Anita’s contributions to OU Hockey have provided players with first-class health care on and off the ice. Anita currently works for OrthoCentral Sports Medicine, an affiliate of Norman Regional Health Systems, the health care provider for OU Hockey.

A native of Oklahoma City, Josh started his hockey career when he was 10 with the OKC Blazers CHL team as a game night volunteer. After working with the OKC Barons AHL team from 2010-14, he landed his first Head Equipment Manager job with the WSHL OKC Blazers from 2014-17. Josh joined the Sooners Hockey Team in his current role as Head Equipment Manager in 2020.

Faculty Advisor

Serving as OU Hockey’s Faculty Advisor since 2008, Dr. Hammerstedt is a Senior Researcher in the Oklahoma Archeological Society and affiliate faculty with the Department of Anthropology. His research focuses on the southeastern US between AD 1000-1500, primarily on the Spiro site in eastern Oklahoma. He is also a former defenseman from Penn State University, playing from 1992-95.

Growing up the daughter of an Air Force father, Emily landed in Moore, OK where she completed her high school education before moving on to OU.  Emily graduated from OU with a degree in Health and Exercise Science and is currently pursuing a career in Physical Therapy with a focus in Sports Medicine.  She has served with OU Hockey since 2018.

A Bethany, OK native, Kaycie is currently a junior at OU studying Nursing with a minor in Health and Exercise Science.  She is currently serving in her second year as a student athletic trainer with the OU Hockey team.

Currently a junior at OU, Slayton is a Sports Business and Marketing major. She is a native of the Dallas area and hopes to work for an NHL team in the future. This is Slayton’s first year working with OU Hockey.
