PENN STATE SOLIDIFIES ITS GRIP ON THE #1 SPOT

UNION LAKE, MI – Penn State University is the #1 team in the country for the 7th consecutive ranking, receiving 30 of a possible 39 first-place votes in the 2011-2012 ACHA Men's Division 1 Ranking #8.  #2 Delaware garnered only 7 first-place votes this time while #3 Lindenwood moved up a spot and picked up the other 2 first-place votes.  Arizona State slid down a spot to #4 while Liberty snuck past Ohio and into the #5 spot.

#8 Minot State and #11 Davenport were this week’s big movers-and-shakers as they both moved up two spots in the polls.  There was a lot of movement in the polls, as 19 of the 25 teams either moved up or down from their placement in Ranking #7.

The ninth ranking of the regular season will be released on Friday, February 17.  This will determine the 20 teams that will qualify for the National Tournament.

The 2012 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships will be hosted March 2-7 by Kent State University and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission at Hoover Arena in Strongsville, OH.  The field has expanded from 16 to 20 teams beginning with this tournament.  Host Kent State along with the Regular Season Champions of the following leagues will qualify automatically for the tournament: CSCHL - Lindenwood; NECHL - Rutgers; CHMA - TBD (Pitt, WVU, JCU, or SRU); ECHL - TBD (Mercyhurst or Niagara); ECHA - TBD (Drexel or Navy); GLCHL - TBD (Davenport or Oakland).
