What is the most unappreciated team at OU?

Let’s start with some quick facts about the OU hockey club: It’s ranked sixth in the nation, its record is 11-2, and one of those losses was in overtime at Liberty University, the No. 4 team in the nation.

The team has three players from Alaska, and one from Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Didn’t know any of that? Frankly, I’d be shocked if you did. Oklahoma isn’t exactly hockey country.

In fact, you can’t even follow the hockey team’s progress on SoonerSports.com, or check on stats and results.

Why?

Because it technically isn’t a team, but rather it is classified as a club because it isn’t a school-sponsored sport.

And in a state that cares for few sports that aren’t football, the OU hockey club continues to blow through its opponents having outscored opponents 76-29 this season.

For a program to be underappreciated, it needs to be successful and virtually unknown.

I’d be willing to wager that half of the OU student population doesn’t even realize there is a hockey club, let alone that it is having a successful season. If that isn’t being underappreciated, I don’t know what is.
