Previously, the Sooner Hockey Club had never won in Ames, Iowa against the Cyclones from Iowa State.

That all changed Friday as the Sooners fought out a 4-3 victory for their first ever win in Ames.

They added their second ever win in Ames the following day with a 3-1 victory.

The wins improve OU’s record to 13-1-1 on the season.

In Saturday’s win, the Sooners scored once in period one by freshman forward Sean McCauley. In period two the Sooners added two more goals. The first by fellow freshman forward Jarrod Yost, and the second by junior forward Doug Gebbie. The 3-0 lead held out the rest of the game. Iowa State scored one goal later to finish 3-1.

On Friday, Iowa State started the scoring off, but McCauley tied it up with 4:44 left in period one.

OU freshman forward Chris Nicolaou scored in period two with another score by McCauley to put the Sooners up 3-1. But ISU scored later in period two, making the score 3-2 at the end of two. OU junior forward Kyle Allan scored on a power-play goal making the score 4-2. OU kept the lead and the team logged its first win in Ames in the archives.

The team plays Weber State on Friday and Saturday in the Blazers Ice Center in Oklahoma City.
